    Renting & Sharing FAQ

How much does it cost to rent on Rosella Street?

    Transaction fees

Rosella Street charges a platform commission of 12 % on all paid rental transactions. We don’t charge a listing fee. You only need to pay when you get paid. Why do we charge you a commission? While we would love for the platform to be free, there’s a cost involved in bringing awesome things like Rosella Street to life. We use the commission to:

  • pay liveable wages for our employees
  • contribute to the build of our platform
  • build the highest levels of data protection
  • cover our insurance policy
  • provide customer support
  • give back to the environment and the community
  • We donate 1% of every sale or rental to plant a bush tucker tree in Buymarr, a remote aboriginal community in north-east Arnhem land. Find more about our tree planting project here.

    Payment processing fees

We set you up with a secure payment system -Stripe - to protect you from fraud and scamming (gone are the dangerous days of carrying cash, or providing your bank account details to a stranger!). Payment processing fees vary based on the location of your bank account. We charge a 3% + A$0.30 for Australian cards and 4.15% + A$0.30 for international cards.

Find out more information about Stripe here

So, if something is listed for $100, the borrower pays $100, and the lender receives $84.7 (if an Australian card is used for payment) or receives $83.55 (if an international card is used for payment)

How do I post a listing?

Listing is easy, simply click Add a listing. You will then be taken through a simple and speedy registration, and you can begin listing your items. You can also have a look at the step-by-step guide in the video above.

What kinds of things can I list?

Rosella Street prohibits the listing of items for rent which are:

  • illegal
  • offensive
  • require a license to operate
  • are on any list of prohibited items within the borrower's or lender's jurisdiction
  • are designed to hurt or harm another person.
  • What about my boat or caravan?

Good call, people love that stuff! The way we have catered to boats and caravans is that they can be hired out as “stationary rentals”. That means the owner can bring it to renter, or the renter can use it in situ, but the renter is not able to move it around themselves. Gives access to some pretty cool spaces!

What price should I charge for my item listings?

Walk to the top of the mountain and you shall find your answer. Alternatively try around 5-15% of the item’s purchased price per day, depending on factors such as age, condition, and even sentimental value. See how things go and then adjust the price based on demand. Another consideration is how long someone is likely to hire out your item (for example a bookset is likely to be booked out for weeks/months, so it is worth bearing that in mind when thinking of the price).

Can I choose when and for how long to rent my items?

Yes! Your things, your choice. You can adjust the item availability during and after the listing process, as long as it does not affect any active bookings. You are under no obligation to rent your items upon every request, and you can rent out your things for as long as you like. Once you have agreed to a rental period with a user, they are not obligated to return it to you until the rental period is over, so plan ahead.

What if someone steals, breaks or ruins my item?

We understand it can be concerning to rent out items to people you don't know. This is why we do everything we can to minimize the risk of any unpleasantries.

  • Two-way rating and review system
  • In-built messaging for better communication
  • Rosella St Guarantee should there be any worst case scenarios
  • While we aim to build a trusting and sharing community at Rosella Street, we also encourage all users to exercise sensible caution when interacting with others to ensure an enjoyable experience.

How do I go about renting something?

Renting is easy, simply type in what you need in the top bar, or get inspired by clicking the 'Browse' button on the homepage. Once you've found the thing you needed, check the calendar on the listing details to see its availability, and request to book!

    Is everything in mint condition?

Rosella Street brings the community together to share what they have, some things will be new, some will have developed "quirks" already. We encourage everyone to connect with each other by using the platform's inbuilt messaging system, communicate clearly the item's conditions prior to booking to avoid misunderstanding later on.

Sometimes accidents happen, what do I do then?

Firstly, make sure you are safe and ok. We understand things can break sometimes. In the rare event of a breakage, please contact the lender within 24 hours to discuss. Hopefully you just need to flick some hidden switch, or tap it twice and it will be off and running.
